Waggott was not the first twin cam head for the grey motor.

Fred Foster, from Brisbane beat them to it with this effort.
Seen here at a speedway display some time ago. This one is now the only one left in existence.

Foster must have been a clever man. Here's the Foster V12 from the 50s.

Archive.

This is Pete S. alongside his Mk.7 when he had just got registration in 1972 when he lived in Queensland.
....and this is Bruce T. in the same backyard when he drove up from Adelaide for a visit.
Pete still has his Mk.7 and it is undergoing a major refurbishing. Bruce's was sold many years ago and last I heard it was languishing in a shed in Parkside.

A nice sculpture?

No, it's Susie Wolff's seat insert.

The Buchanan Pontiac.

Another photo has come to light, amazingly from a blog in Europe, of the Pontiac V8 powered Buchanan coupe from South Australia.
The origin of the hardtop is obvious (from a VW beetle). A Stobie pole (unique to SA) is evident and it looks very much like Dawson Street, Fullarton, where the car once lived.

This car was built by, not Peter Mac, but Peter De Mac, a well known speed car driver at the time.

The long and the short of it.

Time travel 50s style.

That's odd.

An FB in Bali.
The wheels are 6 stud. That's the odd bit.

Spotto!

Kapunda - week 82.

Rolling through town were these ex-WWII heavy duty vehicles, on their way to Alice Springs for the IH get together, held every 5 years.
And these Kombis keep coming out of the woodwork.
On the very same afternoon there were half a dozen Bollies in the car park behind the Sir John Franklin Hotel but I didn't get outside to grab a pic.

Rumor has it.

That one of these will be floating around Darwin.
When the builder lays off that European beer and comes home that is.

Sprint round 4.

Competing were 4 Bolly members, Peter Mac (Mk.7), Norm Clements (Clemente), Chris Gascoigne (MX5) and Robert Jacobs (Puma clubby) and former member, Ian Duncan, was quickest by far of all of the MX5s.
Ron's 7, Robert's very quick Clubman.
Maybe Pete, you could get a job as a sign-writer.
Timing troubles so not much track time for poor old Norm.
Here's a trend! These Excels are going to outnumber MX5s very soon.
Nice to see some Healeys out and about.
A bit of a sleeper, this one.
Alfas everywhere.
Love this little Mini.
As usual, a couple of VERY fast Dattos.
Another quickie.
The speedy cockroach.
Very noisy MG, must mean business. "The Beast" written across the back.
As the X1/9 owners get more serious, the modifications continue.

And good on the half dozen or so Bolly members who were flaggies for the day.

Different.

I just wonder why these Skodas have a sideways opening boot.

Albury/Wodonga

The oldies of Albury/Wodonga have a Facebook page where they lament the loss of the joys from the "good old days" by posting photos from the past, acknowledging the contributor. Often, there are interesting ones of the Hume Weir circuit. Here's a few that have caught my eye.
This was pre-mobile phones so it was very thoughtful of the organisers to put that phone box there in case drivers needed to stop and make a call.

I've heard of retiring and hanging up your helmet.

But Nelson's hung up his car.
Garrie H, that Formula 2 in the glass case in your lounge room doesn't cut it any more.

Rundle Street, 2 weeks before the Bay to Birdwood Classic.

Bay to Birdwood Classic to stop Rundle Street!
The Bay to Birdwood is coming to Rundle Street in the East End on Sunday 13th September. Around 90 classic vehicles of the 50s, 60s and 70s will be on display on Rundle Street, Vardon Avenue and Ebenezer Place.
From 12 noon until 4pm Rundle Street and surrounding Ebenezer Place and Vardon Avenue will be closed to traffic so people can wander amongst these magnificent vehicles, get a close- up look and chat to the owners.
The display will feature the very best of classic vehicles including a 1970 Mercedes Benz 280SL, 1968 E Type Jaguar and a number of Corvettes, Ford Mustangs and Chevrolets to keep any car enthusiast happy! There will also be a fine display of Australian classics like the EH Holden, 1960 Chrysler Royal (built in Adelaide) and Ford Falcon’s.
There will also be entertainment by retro band Raunchy Sugar who will entertain the crowd from 12:30pm to 3:30pm and the Legends Rock and Roll Community Club will perform some rockin roll dancing.
Mal Hyde, Chairman of the Bay to Birdwood says it is the loyal support of historic vehicle owners, admirers, spectators and local communities that have sustained this great South Australian event over the years and we welcome people to Rundle Street for a preview of these vehicles a fortnight before the big event.
“It is also the support of great South Australian businesses like Maras Group that we can stage this great event for the South Australian community and historic motoring enthusiasts,” said Mr Hyde.
Mr Steve Maras, Managing Director and CEO said “Maras Group is a strong believer in putting back into the community. The Bay to Birdwood is a fantastic iconic South Australian event and we want to showcase a little bit of it in the East End of Adelaide. Businesses around Rundle Street, Vardon Avenue and on Ebenezer Place are excited about hosting the event.”
The Bay to Birdwood Classic is taking place on Sunday 27th September and we encourage everyone to line the streets and watch the cavalcade of historic motor vehicles or enjoy the fun family day at the National Motor Museum in Birdwood from 10am to 5pm.
